Facebook or Myspace?

There are so many questions in life:

Among others; Coke or Pepsi, McDonalds or Hungry Jacks, Holden or Ford, House or Appartment, City or Country, North or South, Cold or Hot, Men or Women, To be or Not to be, Juice or Cordial, Sandwich or Roll, White bread or Brown Bread, Full Cream or Skim, Rice or Soy, TV or Radio, Automatic or Manual (ok… i think i made my point)….. and finally….. ‘FACEBOOK OR MYSPACE’???

This is the question I am faced with at 11pm at night, when I can’t sleep and activity on MSN is at a low. Do I; A) Clean my room, B) Watch TV or C) Join an online community? After selecting C (the obvious choice) that sill question that has sparked many a debate popped up… Facebook or Myspace?

Well guy’s, now is your chance to comment and add your opinion….. so go nuts!

I-Mate JASJAM

26 April, 2007 at 11:38 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

Some of you out there may be looking for a phone. Some of you may be looking for a PDA? Some of you might be looking for a portable email system. Well… I think you may of found your device.

The JasJam is a pda smart-phone offering you the added bonus of the NextG network. Although before I get into what the phone can do and how good it is let me tell you how I ended up with one. After having a work supplied blackberry and various other phones I wanted to get my own phone with great functionality and some really cool features. I’d had phones when they’ve first come out such as the Sony Ericsson T300 (first colour screen) various Nokia’s, the T600 (Sony Ericsson). I even bought that Nokia that was almost a perfect square with two pointy corners and two rounded corners. So when it came time, I couldn’t just purchase one of those $50 phones from the supermarket. I wanted something that could play MP3’s, something with Blue tooth, Internet connectivity (better than your standard GPRS connection), big colour screen, touch screen, office document capabilities, and a good alarm. Thankfully the I-Mate came to the rescue, as it has all of this. Except for the good alarm, as all I can get it to do is play the same 3 or 4 stupid alarm tones and only on the mornings wher it feels like it. It’s like your girlfriend after a big night out at time… “leave me alone, I want to sleep for another 5 hours!!!”

So the JasJam is packed with the following technical wizardry…

  • Samsung 400MHz processor (rumoured to be equivalent to a 520MHz Intel X-Scale processor),

  • WiFi 802.11 b and g,

  • Bluetooth

  • Proper Jog wheel,

  • QVGA (320×240) screen,

  • Quad band GSM with UMTS,

  • 2 mega-pixel camera (on rear including flash),

  • Forward facing camera (for video calls),

  • Slide out QWERTY keyboard (with back light),

  • 1300 mAh Lithium Ion Polymer battery,

  • A multiplex of different buttons (to control the device), and

  • Windows Mobile 5.0 (with AKU 2.0).

  • … and despite that technical wizardry it still manages to be a pain in the ass!

I’m guessing when designing this phone; It was nearing 5pm on a friday afternoon and their boss came in and said. ”Hey guys, I want you to put a button for the internet and a button for email on the outside of the phone”. To which one of the guys who was probably at this time almost passing out from not getting his friday afternoon beer, piped up and replied. “I know… let’s put it right where the speaker is. So whenever someone is talking on the phone, they are unknowingly browsing the internet chewing up there bandwidth allowance with their ear!” BRILLIANT!

So, while putting buttons in stupid spots, the guys as I-Mate also managed to give a really good screen and some good features that make you want to use your I-Mate for hours and hours on end at a time… Wait.. can you guess……. CORRECT!!! A battery that couldn’t even electrocute an injured ant with 2 legs. Unfortunately if I am out of the office for more than 2 hours and take 1 or 2 phone calls, people need to expect to go straight through to my message bank… Cause that’s where the power in my battery has gone… Hiding somewhere there between “Hi my name is” and “BEEP”.

Despite I-Mate playing silly buggers with it’s users. This phone continues to bring me happiness and joy. It’s a good phone, a good email client, a good internet browser, a good pda, a good still camera with digital zoom and the built in solitare… ROCKS!

So if you can put up with it’s short falls, then i’d suggest you buy one… But look out, because the networks selling them charge a fortune for bandwidth and downloads and calls and well… the JASJAM

    Innapropriatly Sleepy

    24 April, 2007 at 1:13 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

When i think about the word sleep. I usually think about snuggling up on a cold winters morning and sleeping in while being extremely comfortable and warm. I am sure most of you will agree that this kind of sleep is AWESOME!

Today, I would like to put forward that I have been experiencing extreme cases of “Inappropriate sleepiness”. What is this innapropriate sleepiness?  You might say? Well… have you ever been sitting in your office at your desk in front of your computer at work and just when you are at the most riveting moment of planning your day, your eye lids decide to give your eyes a little rest!? Well this is what I have been experiencing for the last week.

At my previous job, It was an open plan office. I used to stare at my computer screen, head weary, eyes momentarily closing all while my head was still propped up. Once I managed to grab a few minutes of shut eye. But, Now. There is a problem. I have a door that closes and a curtain that prevents prying eyes from sneaking a glance of me doing what I do best. I also have a big enough desk to be able to make a little space for my head.

Hang on… I don’t think it is fair to blame my self for this sudden on set of inappropriate sleepiness! I would like to think that it is indeed works fault. The lack of air conditioning in my office creating a warm snugly cubby hole. The individual office, ensuring privacy all day and the old CRT computer screen that I am currently staring at.

If any one has a cure for this annoying illness pleas post a reply or email me at jonathancd@optusnet.com.au

Galavanting across the country side… (part 2)

Zueses Temple - AthensSo finally we were in Istanbul. Home to the International Mayors Summit of 2007.

Getting off the plane was easy (one step at a time). There was little to no security going from the plane to pick up our bags through to the visa office. Once at the visa office you are required to pay the lady $20 US in exchange for a sticker in your passport that sais you may enter Turkey as many times as you wish within the next 3 months. YAY, access to turkey for 3 months!

Getting to our hotel was just as easy. Thankfully we had already organised for a transfer from the airport, where our driver bought us home made turkish delight and asked for a tip.

The next 2 weeks can fairly easily be summed up by the following: Long 13 hour bus trips, 3 hour ferry rides, 3 hour train trips, hours of walking, plenty of cafe’s, greek coffee, turkish tea, overly expensive food, cards, more cafe’s, more coffee, more train, bus and ferry trips. More walking, cafe’s, coffee and cards followed by a late night fever, a mid day cold sweat, a bit of grand bazaar shopping then lastly a 23 hour plane trip with 2 stops. That’s pretty much how quickly our trip whent too!!!

I would also like to add, if you fly and have conjested sinus’…. DON”T! It is almost the one, singular, most painfull experience you will have. I havn’t experienced much worse than sitting in a plane that’s taking off, while certain parts of your ear are rupturing causeing your ear drum (while under extreme pressure) to be encased in puss and blood (from ruptured bits). Thus, completely muffling your ability to hear out of your right ear. What makes it worse, is now your up in the air at 35,000ft and you’ve still got 3 more landings and 2 more take offs!!!

    Galavanting Across the Country Side

(right) Girlfriend, (left) Myself. As some of you may be aware, this April, my lovely Girlfriend and I packed our swags and headed off for Istanbul in Turkey and Greece.

Our trip started with our inability (well, my inability) to sleep the night before due to massive amounts of excitement. Once I finally got my self of to sleep it was time to arise again! This was great. The 31st of March – the day we fly out to Turkey!!!

Sitting on a plane for 23 hours with 2 stops on the way was hardly rivetting. However, I was still excited… that is, untill, i’d watched two movies, eaten a meal, had a stare out my window at the Australian west coast, then water. Nothing but Water. This was pretty much as exciting as sitting in my office at work staring at the blank wall that I’ve not been bothered to decorate. For a further 20 or so hours I did this. Infact, now i think of it. My office would of been a nicer place to sit. I wouldn’t of had a cramped seat that i couldn’t get out of because I had to squeeze past 2 other people, the lady in front of me wouldn’t of kept her chair back while we where trying to eat. Actually, there wouldn’t of been a lady sitting in front of me if i were in my office and I certainly wouldn’t of watched the same episode of scrubs 3 times before looking down and taking a bite out of my dinner roll.

So we’d travelled half way across the world, stopping at Singapore, then Dubai, then finally Istanbul. We were here! Finally we had arrived at our destination…

2 weeks of holidaying in a foreign land here we come……..
